Abstract/ 2006

The 'egg bridge' pedestrian bridge was engineered to extend across Lake Shore Drive in Chicago' from Millennium Park to the edge of Lake Michigan. The concept reiterated the structural integrity of the egg shell as exists in the natural environment. The parabolic shape of the natural 'egg' balances compression force when applied to the end points at equal strengths. This was the essence of integrity for this '5D' bridge.
• Reiteration of natural structure
• Utilizing vegetation for acoustical control
• Promoting pedestrian movement
• Connecting the park and the lake front
• Simple elegant structure
