Abstract/ 1992

This project was a re-articulation of the existing Art & Architecture Library at University of Michigan. The new program called for a place for archivally preserved rare books and portfolios. The strategy implemented engineering a 'base floor' readin room below the existing upper single story library. Hoeksema's conceptual response iterated the rhythm of the existing structure through a columnar structural system, resulting in additional 'archival preservation' columns, structure free, for portfolio exhibition and study nooks.
